Mike Smith

WaterAid
Systems Architect
Oxford, United Kingdom
Mike Smith leads a small team to deliver WaterAid’s Enterprise Architecture and Technology for Development initiatives. He uses his field experience that he gained from working within the International Programmes Department to now lead technology decision making from within IT, making sure that technology is a key enabler across the WaterAid federation.

Mike is a firm believer of the potential that data and technology can have in transforming our approach to International Development, as well as the scale of impact that we can achieve. To this end he has taken leading roles to bridge the gap between technology and international development stakeholders including improving and advocating for data standards such as IATI and WPDx and a cross-organisation collaboration to produce the sector’s first NGO Reference Model. Come along to the session at 2pm Thursday to hear more about how the NGO Reference Model can help enable Digital Transformation in your organisation.

He draws on his previous experiences as a lecturer at Wadham College, University of Oxford, and his Robotics PhD where he facilitated the robotics open-data revolution through publishing the world’s first robotics data paper and incentivising others to release over £50m of previously inaccessible robots to the global research community.
